The Process from Entry to Judging

All entries are assigned an identification number and reviewed for accuracy.  From there, the exhibit materials and packets are put in judging order.  Judges then spend three days, reviewing entries, including exhibits, photography and floor plans.  In addition, Judges tour the finalists for Detached Home of the Year, Custom Home of the Year, Town Home of the Year, Condominium of the Year, In-Fill Home of the Year, Neighborhood and Community of the Year.  Homes must be available to be toured on September 17 and 18, 2008.  Entrants will be contacted a day in advance if they have finalized in the above categories with their two hour time window.  Due to extremely limited time and flexibility, any home not available during the two hour touring window will not be toured.

Representatives from BONDI & Co. LLC Certified Public Accountants and Management Consultants, an independent auditing firm, will observe all judging to ensure the adherence to the judging rules and to maintain the integrity of the process.
All entries are assigned an identification number and reviewed for accuracy. From there, the exhibit materials and packets are put in judging order. Out of state judges then spend three days, reviewing entries, including exhibits, photography and floorplans. In addition, Judges tour the finalists for Detached, Townhome and Condominium of the Year, Custom Home of the Year, Neighborhood and Community of the Year. Each of the judges will mark their ballots on a 10-point system, with 10 being the highest.  Representatives from BONDI & Co. then directly collect and tabulate all of the judge’s ballots to calculate the finalists the BAR AWARD winners.  Only the members of the BONDI auditing team and the producer of the BAR AWARDS show will know the winners prior to the announcement at the 2008 BAR AWARDS ceremony.

The selection of exceptional judges is critical to the Bar Awards.  A panel that includes the current Bar Awards Chairperson and Co-Chairperson, and the Bar Awards Judging Committee selects our highly qualified judges.  All judges submit a bio of qualifications that the panel reviews. All product, advertising, marketing, and interior design categories are judged by out-of-state judges who are builders, developers, architects, interior designers and marketing professionals. Judges are selected to produce the most well-rounded and geographically diverse judging group possible. A strict requirement is that no judge may have performed work of any kind in the Denver marketplace within the last 5 years..

For Rookie of the Year, Salesperson of the Year, Sales Team of the Year, Sales Manager of the Year and Marketing Director of the Year, a local panel is selected to conduct one-on-one interviews.  This local panel consists of sales and marketing professionals from a variety of businesses.  These professionals conduct interviews using approved questions appropriate for the building industry.  Entrants will be contacted by September 19, 2008 regarding their interview schedule.  Those personal interviews will take place on September 25, 2008, at the HBA office.  Candidates must be available at their scheduled time.

Repeat Entries

Remember, if you don't have any new work and/or feel like what you entered last year (which is still being marketed) is award worthy, feel free to enter that work again.  This applies to any category:  interior design, home, etc.

Definition of Terms
Attached and Detached Homes: A series of homes built several times in the same location or multiple locations with standard elevation choices and predetermined options.  The home must be built more than once in the same location from August 1, 2007 to August 30, 2008 to be eligible as a production home.  If the home is not built more than once, please enter as a custom home.  Attached homes include condominiums, lofts and town homes.

Custom Homes: A single home built on a custom home site with a specific elevation, floor plan and specifications unique to itself.  Not duplicated in any other location in an identical form from August 1, 2007 to August 30, 2008.  May be a presale or speculative home.

Community: Refers to a complete filing, Planned Building Group (PBG), Planned Unit Development (PUD) or master planned community with extensive community specific amenities.

Neighborhood: Refers to a group of homes marketed by a single builder.  May be part of a master planned community, an infill site or a stand-alone location or part of a master planned community with limited community specific amenities.

Base Price: The base price of the home including all standard features on August 1, 2008.

Marketing Statements: Written marketing statements are required for ALL categories.  A brief period of time is given for the judges to hear each marketing statement.  Please address relevant areas for the judges to consider in reviewing your entry.  Keep in mind the photos and collateral material will be viewed by the judges while hearing the marketing statement.  Highlight aspects of your entry that may NOT be obvious in the photos or on tour.  For example a design challenge, resolution and outcome:  Nearby power lines, viewed outside the model windows, were less obvious with the use of bold crimson and yellow colors that drew one’s eyes into the room, rather than outside surroundings.  Other key points might include a structural challenge, a price point consideration, flexibility of a plan targeted to audience or strict design review guidelines (Note: Builder’s name must not appear on the marketing statement or floor plans).

Sales Pavilion: A free-standing structure used as a centralized information/sales source for a master planned community or PUD (Planned Unit Development).

Sales Team: On-site Community Managers and/or Representatives who work in a new home community as a team.

Standard Features: A list of standard features is required for each production home interior design category and production home.
